Me thinks when the slumps happen, the fans will let them know about it a little sooner now. Gezzz they boo Smytie, didn?t they realize Oiler fans don?t get off on this.

You usually only see that kind of arrogance from players that have actually won a Stanley Cup, not from those who like to pretend that they're going to win a Stanley Cup. As much as I hated the old Oilers even I have to admit that it'd be highly unlikely to see this kind of behaviour come from Gretzky and Messier. Shame on the new kids and those who have apparently over-inflated their egos to a really unnecessary degree.

I actually had a buddy that came here and he actually left because he had to pay $25 to get just an autograph, said Oilers fan Byron Hall at the Polish Veterans Hall. 9203 144 Ave.

Can't blame the guy... I'd leave too.

    Pathetic

    This is absolutely ridiculous.

I can't believe this was condoned. It certainly shouldn't have been. I'm a life long, die hard Oil fan, but under NO circumstances would I stand in line to PAY for an autograph unless, of course, it was going to charity.

I hope heads roll over this one.

You got that right,I flew from Calgary to LA with them and they were a class act all the way,Messier loved talking about the farm teams and getting kids into hockey and gretzky let us follow him into the cockpit and get pics with him and the pilots and autographs all around.

They were playing LA for the finals, think it was late 70's.

Slather makes them fly coach. :o Wayne was very polite and asked lot's of questions, where we were going, where we were from.

So we all got booed when we got into the airport.

i have to be honest, the tag line threw me, i thought it was an article
about the Oilers running out to meet the fans after a game,
cause they did real good or something..

never crossed my mind for a second that someone could be so stupid
to actually try and get money for autographs.

will someone please go and burn the offices of AJ,
and give those two snot nosed kids the spanking they so richly deserve.

i'll edit myself before the mods do it...

Well my neighbor 2 doors down borded both Doug Gilmour and Wayne Gretzky when they played for the Cornwall Royals.

The only other hockey player I knew was Pete Mahovlich. I was so young at the time, he came to Dalhousie, NB and stayed at my parent house.

I was so young, I don't remember much or why he was there, just the fact that I got to sit on his knee for a photo. I think I was 5 or 6 years old at the time.

Also, a famous fella, who is no longer with us.. but my cousin on my Mom's side is Don Loney. For most of you who don't know who Loney was, a terrific football player, playing in the CFL for Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary in the 50's.

A great football player and also a great painter, he enjoyed painting trains. He also coached football in Nova Scotia for a time.

I was at a party about 15 years ago and one of the guys who did sports on one of the local Calgary TV stations was there. We all got to talking cause he had all sorts of awesome sports stories. I asked him about interviewing Gretzky and the fella said that the first time he talked to Wayne was difficult because the Kings had just gotten pounded by the Flames and Gretz was in a really bad mood about it and wasn't in the mood to take questions. He said also that when he talked again to Gretzky the following year that Wayne apologized to him for being bad-tempered towards the reporters on that previous night. I hated Gretzky when he was an Oiler but hearing that and seeing the way he does things in the game and in his life in general I'll agree right now that Wayne's a class act all the way. Too bad he was never a Flame! Fuck you, Nelson Skalbania, for giving his rights away to the WHA Oilers! What could have been! GRRRRRRRR!

The sports guy at the party also said that, bar none in the hundreds of interviews that he'd done over the years, that biggest fucking prick he ever had to interview was Patrick Roy. Given how Roy, a wife-beater extraordinaire, apparently raised his son I'd say the reporter dude was right.
