I am not buying this BS at all...Jean Chretien spoke horrendous english and won 3 consecutive majority governments. What seperates them is that Chretien was able to be articulate and Dion is not able. If he truly has a hearing impedement than he shouldnt be so proud that wearing a hearing aid is out of the question. Also there was no trick in the question asked of him, his problem was that he had no answer, and that is what he is being hammered on...not other more personal reasons!!!

The Conservatives attacked Chretien ruthlessly for his English too though, stokes. Can you imagine if Harper was held to the same standard in Quebec?

    Can't imagine...oh I forgot...Harper's
French, and ability to think and communicate in
either language prevents the media r the opposition
from pouncing on him for similar reasons...
but there ARE no similar reasons.
If Harper screwed up questions in French, the
media and the Libs would jump on him the same way.
    Tough titty, Rev.

I don't speak French, but my bilingual friends tell me that Harper's French is pretty questionable at times, especially when his speeches aren't prepared for him (presumably translated from the original Australian) and far worse this time than last time.

Harper has likely made his share of gaffes in taped interviews too, in English and French. Starting over is not uncommon in such situations. The difference, of course, is that most media outlets don't release the out-takes as a political attack during an election.

All I can say is, it seems there are a good many Conservatives with the same disability as Mr. Dion. One might think they'd be more forgiving and less elitist.

It's funny when the leader of the Bloc can actually speak better English then the Liberal leader.

    Dion just dosen't care.
Why should he bother, he's the leader of the "natural ruling party".
    He's entitled to be pm..

Well, Dion may have some problems, but he cares a hell of a lot more than Harper does.

No more no less than any other party.. he just happens to be a better man... for alot of reasons.. one important one is his education.. but you torys are so used to being critical and child like with name calling and steriotyping people in such small minds as you have that you cant see the forrest for the trees..
I have a very good friend who is Romanian.. he cant speak english well and he has been in Canada 25 yrs and prior to that he lived in England.. so he said " so the concervatives would think that anyone who had a bad english accent couldnt be prime minister... I said I guess so.. but its perfectly alright to speak french with a poor accent and chop the crap out of the language... this is called conservative double standard..

Do you watch french tv? or listen to french radio.. harper has screwed up many times and his french is very poor... and no the libs, greens and NDP didnt jump on it.. they respect the efforts of someone speaking in a language other than their mother tongue.. its only the childlike torys that stoop to such low life tactics.
the same guy is working for harper that worked for Kim Campbell and used the same crap with M.Chretien.. it backfired and he got 2 thats 2 back to back majoritys and the torys were reducde to 2 seats which they deserved.. they should have been totally wiped out..
