Asian markets tumbled early Tuesday after the U.S. House of Representatives voted down the $700 billion financial bailout package overnight, with shares plunging across the board. The Nikkei 225 Average slumped 4.8% to 11,178.34 and the Topix index skidde
Why? Because we'll be living in caves, penniless, or because the new American Politburo, after nationalizing everything has sent us all to reeducation centers to brainwash us into forgetting this ever happened?
"Apollo" said The markets will recover within 12 months and no one will care anymore.
History has repeated this cycle 13 times before. This will just be number 14.
And just what makes you think that's going to happen O great sage? Is some magical faerie going to come out of the blue and restore the lost value to millions of homes so people aren't foreclosed on anymore? Or will money magically appear on Wall St. so that liquidity is restored and loans can be made again without any fear? Hmm?

It's called life my boring little friend. You see, there are these beings called humans on this planet called earth. Each day 6.6 Billion of these "humans" wake up and go to work. Why you say? So that they can get ahead. They want to live in better homes, drive cars, listen to music etc. To do these things they require currency. When currency is exchanged for goods and or services, a profit is made. When profits are made stocks go up.
So unless you are predicting the end of the world, I'm going to bet that the markets will recover just as they have done for over 100 years. Like clockwork.

At some point, they will recover. Nobody knows when though.
Its a facile point to assume stocks will recover. Stocks move in long cycles. If you invested in the US markets 10 years ago and held on, you would have lost money up until today. From 1966 to 1982, the Dow Jones went up exactly 0%. After inflation, the Dow didn't break even until 1991. So, yes, stocks will eventually move higher, but if you have to wait 10 or 25 years, that's small comfort.

5 years from now, no one will remember any of this.
This day will be remembered for a long time.
