Makes you wonder why Chretien put us in that war anyways.
I'm going to stop calling it Chretien's war because NATO might win this and I don't want that to stick. I don't like it but we do need to set and end date and the combined parliament gave us to 2011 and since all the good Liberals who started the mission have left, we're probably unable to get a vote to extend the mission. Considering the hero's work to achieve the Manly conditions (that's an odd sentance.. ) perhaps the next government will be able to kick start those lazy partners of NATO into pulling their weight.
Its going to happen either way, Canada wont have a major force in Afghanistan after 2010. Even if somehow the mission is exstended again, I dont think it will, the force that Canada will have will be under 1500. I more worried about the french getting pissed off, they have gotten their asses handed to them a few times this year. It wouldnt be unlike them to say fuck it and start withdrawing troops or keeping them in the camps.
Yes, with all the fine things being said about the french and our other allies in the region I can totally see why they would want to waste their soldiers lives and their resources on our behalf.
Russia and China must be sitting back laughing at us. Not only is this unwinnable war draining resources but given the comments made by some nations against the other nations it is serving to widen the cracks in NATO.

They are risking their lives for the mission not us, and they are NOT doing us a favor in Afghanistan. They are simply doing what they should have done when NATO was slotted into Afghanistan, several years too late mind you. The are apart of NATO and should be pulling their weight, they wouldnt be getting their ass kicked if they had been trained properly. The mission is not unwinnable.
I don't like it but we do need to set and end date
But Harper said setting an end date was bad. Then he flip-flopped on that at a breakfast meeting. i don't think he has a plan...I think he just makes shit up as he goes along.

Just because a few Americans and Canadians believe in the BS load Bush shoved on us doesn't mean they should also.
They should do what ever the hell they want to do and fuck the opinion of people insulting them and telling them what they should and shouldn't do.
Wasting their time in yes it is an unwinnable war because we aren't ever going to get these people to just roll over and let us fuck them. They have been fighting for their tribes way of life for probably a thousand years longer then Canada has been around so not one single westerner will ever force his beliefs and vision of society on them.
In addition, most if not all the reasons they are often violent and oppressive are the reasons we simply cannot tough without losing the few allies we have.
A wasted war and a wasted effort and our resources should be in defending our own country with a larger navy and airforce and finding better ways to aid those in need without launching wars based on false premises.

Of ocurse. Back when Harper needed the Liberals to sort Afghanistan out the Libs were condemned as outright traitors with a cut and run mentality. Now its a whole new set of downs.
We are clearly one of the most capable militaries in Afghanistan and it gives me great pride that the maple leaf is there to put a stop to a radical religious organization that forcefully seized an entire country to enslave the citizens and begin a campaign of fear to have continued control over the country and enforce a ridiculous set of islamic religious laws that basically hurled the country centuries backwards and living by a bunch of fairy tales written in a warped book. Afghans are good people that deserve a better life and we're providing our blood to help bring that, not to mention making sure terrorist pukes have no where to hide and plan out their activities. I know I would sure as hell want, and appreciate, that kind of world help if a terrorist group took over Canada and force that kind of shit on us. People find it so easy to oppose this war from their comfortable chairs in front of their tv or computer, maybe they should be force to live under sharia law and than explain why we shouldn't be there to make sure these low lifes don't have any kind of authority anywhere. I'm against setting a date for the public though, yes you can tell your allies in secret that you plan on leaving by 2011, but you never should make a public annoucement on these kind of things when you know your enemy will see and know they just have to hang on for a few more years.

There have been some ignorant posts about Afghansitan but you sure are right in the medal round.
The Taliban arose from the violence and war between the warlords, the same people we left in charge btw. The final straw was I believe the rape of a small boy, soemthing that now happens with impunity from our allies.
It is not no nor was it ever an occupation of innocent people by a repressive regime. No sides have any claim to innocents just as all sides have claims to ownership of a region in Afghanistan. Tribal cultures stretching back thousands of years coupled with opium warlords being the only real source of jobs in the area and a region that underwent a vicious and bloody war fought in part because the US wanted to give the USSR its own vietname and you have a recipe for disaster.
The US didn't give a damn about the Taliban and were prefectly willing to let them keep doing what they were doing as long as they gave up OBL.
We never ever went their to help those people and helping them is just the lie we tell to keep support up. We wanted a war and we got on.
Bug out?
SNAP!
