OTTAWA -- Elections Canada has concluded that online vote-swapping schemes aren't illegal in themselves -- but it's warning voters to be careful what they're getting into if they decide to participate.

That's interesting, but I think the system is too easy to manipulate.

it's not illegal, but how legit is it? Who in their right mind is going to trust someone in some other riding to co-operate in a scheme like this?

Elections Canada doesn't even address the fact that one person is promising their vote in return for someone else giving them their vote. If that's not selling your vote I don't know what is.

Not everyone who joined that group supports the idea.

Fine. Maybe 10-or-so are there to whine and start shit. The idea is that the group is growing by hundreds a day, and hundreds are part of this idea.
3000 vote sellers isn't going to make much of a difference in the election. It's too bad they have decided to give up their ideals just to keep their local riding from electing the representative they want.

No one is selling votes. There is no money involved in this.

You can only use money to sell? I'll call it bartering then, a transaction is involved. Something of value is being traded.

although I'm obviously making fun of this stupid idea in my comment above, this kind of shit won't make a difference in the election, sorry I know all these facebook freaks think that making a group for something is the answer to everything but Facebook doesn't decide federal elections.

I don't think this will work out in the long run for smaller parties, but I can see the reasoning behind it, as I (and I think most people) believe in the adage "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

I doubt it will work also. They are bragging about having 3000 or more members, but across Canada that doesn't amount to much. You might get a couple hundred vote sellers in a riding and they may affect one or two but in the long run it's a pipe dream for them.

    Just naive kids doing it.
Politically-aware kids already belong to the youth wing of their
parties, and don't dabble in such horseshit.
Vote-swapping initiatives on Facebook....definitely not as serious as
    bomb-building initiatives on YouTube....
or Lizzy May smokin' up on the train...

What value? It's one vote for one vote. Both parties get what they want, versus if they did not trade their votes, both parties would see the same pointless result that happens in every election.
