When Prime Minister Stephen Harper gathered the country's premiers at 24 Sussex Drive last fall, he wanted them to focus on what he saw as the country's No. 1 economic problem: Within a decade or two, there simply will not be enough workers in the country

The City of Calgary spent big bucks to recruit...get this bus drivers from the UK this summer, they signed up 52 drivers and 10 HD mechanics...but according to Liberals in Ontario our economy is failing

Last year the City tried to recruit drivers from southern Ontario they did get a couple of dozen , according to my brother....all but 4 of them have gone home

Maybe we should switch places. Canada can sit next to Mexico for a few years, get some workers, and the US can put some of its obesity to use in combatting the cold. Problem solved!

So the work shortage will be because all our boomers are about to retire?
That is because they will still need health care and other services, plus they will also be still buying food, clothes, cars etc.
But when the boomers hit the next bubble, when they start to die off en masse, wouldn't that even out the workforce demand.
And if we bring in too much labour now we will have an excess of labour then I think.

what's funny is a bunch of 20 something years old girls just finished nursing school are being interview on what are their plans are now that they graduated with a nursing degree: "well, we want to work in the third-world countries because they need us there." I can read on their forehead: "we want to travel at somebody's expenses." There's your sign! Those poor parents have supported them all these years and now kids turn their back on them.

A worker shortage in 2050, this is Harper's problem? At this time there is a million unemployed Canadians, another million that would work if jobs were available and two million working at less than $10 an hour who actually need real jobs. So, what's that, four million people need good jobs. This is the sort of thing Harper is not good at.

It's not that you are running out of Newfies, it's that we got most of the work done now.

They used to say their only here to build Alberta then going home to be wal mart greeters.

I used to hear that all the time in the job shacks pipelining.
