The military is dropping the ball here. I realize that this didn't happen under direct enemy fire, but were it not for the fact that he was in a war zone he might still be alive. Such deaths are attributed to the "fog of war", but this doesn't lessen the sacrifice made by this Canadian boy, dead on a foreign battlefield.

Is the Sacrifice Medal like the Purple Heart? I'm not really used to British/Canadian war medals yet.

No, I was born in Montreal, but spent about...7 years in the United States. So growing up in both history and video games, I'm more used to the US medal systems.

So this means that the guys who were "on the job" and happened to get in the way of a couple of retard trigger happy pilots don't qualify also? Really fucked up. Jeff Walsh was a great Royal!

I actually read up on the requirements for the medal while waiting in the OR the other day. Some requirements are pretty weak, like if you were injured/in the MIR for more then 7 days due to a tour related injury you get it. But if the reservist in the room next to you has an ND and puts one in your neck you dont get it. The CF has always been a little fucked with their medals, on the other side of the coin the US gives medals out for almost anything.

    Hey! Sometimes they deserve it!

Check out the Medal of Honor citations sometime. I love these stories.

And I know, sometimes it seems a bit boring to read about another person jumping on a grenade, saving his buddies, and earning the medal of honor, but how about someone who jumped on a grenade, pulled another underneath himself, and . I love this story. http://www.homeofheroes.com/jacklucas/3_mcl_story.html
He actually passed away a little earlier this year.

I just thought I would use your comment as an opportunity to endorse a website that I consider to be awesome. I wasn't offended at all. :D
