I can't stand the Green Party, wish they would just disappear, nevertheless, the old wicked witch of the west has a point.

We all know the quality of Chinese made products. I sure would like to see a Canadian made product being used particually for this vital action. "Used by paratroopers to cut their harness..."

Actually, I would like to see a law that states all military equipment must be Canadian made.

Why should Canada trust our nation's safety and the safety of our soldiers on foreign governments and manufactureres.

I agree with you . . .but . . .no one is forcing you to vote for them. Or even read articles about them. Let alone post those articles.

And, it seems at least that you do agree with at least one part of their platform. ;)

The military has to make due with the money they are given, so some times they have to get their equipment from outside the country. Anything the military gets from Canada will not be cheap, and most of the time equipment from the US, Britian, Germany ect is alot better then what you are issued from the QM. My field knife I was issued is crap, its Canadian and retails for 90$, so I went online and bought a new American knife for 70$ and some change, much better steel keeps sharp longer and is much sturdier.

The greens should stick with what they are good at, dividing the left, she has no idea what the military is about or what is good for the military. Hell she is doing all her campaining by train! When she was asked on the radio today if she is worried about the loss of cell phone and internet signals she said " If it happens it happens, Im not concered I trust my people will get back to me when they can..." Ya this is a woman I want in government.

Not myself mind you, but I've known people who've told me of Canadians hitting them up for basic stuff like medkits and gun cleaning supplies when they've run into them. No one who's ever told me things like this has said anything bad about the soldiers, mind you, but the eyes predictably roll at the miserly government that sends troops into the field without adequate supplies and spares.

And the USA falls short a lot, too. So this isn't me saying we're any better.

Geez, don't suppose the knives the Greenie-weenies are complaining of are considered substandard - naturally (so to speak) they would rather send our troops 'chuting with pansies or daffodils or even mums. . . .

A Canadian defense industry would be highly subsided, or we'll turn into the next France, selling Western military equipment to any bidder. The Canadian forces isn't that big of a market to be supplied by a localized defense industry. At least, this is what I think. A small one is okay, like for munitions (munitions gets used up so fast, we might as well provide jobs in Canada), light and heavy arms, and maybe light vehicles would not be a bad idea. However, creating a fully independent tank, attack fighter, bomber, or whatever else would be a waste of money when we have the massive US/British/German defense industries.

Shipbuilding is something we should do too, but that's my personal opinion, and probably doesn't really match with the rest of it, however it'd be a good boost to the Maritimes.

Did anyone else notice that she only complained about military equipment/ contracts that directly affect her riding.

    1. If the knives bought elsewhere are better and cheaper than so be it!

    2. Submarine maintenance contracts were awarded to the west coast because Halifax shipyards is not capable of properly doing the work required on our ships let alone the subs. They had Chicoutimi in dry dock for 6 months at a cost of 19 million and did nothing.

    3. It would be great if our ships were built here, because it is a lot of jobs and money but DND tried hard and no Shipyard anywhere on either coast said they were capable of doing it. The Navy needs new ships...deal with it!

Maybe she should campaign her people to do better work!!

Aww, damn. I always loved the Maritimes, so I was hoping for them to get more jobs out there in an industry that seems...traditional to the area.

This is the first paragraph of the article:

"Green Leader Elizabeth May is asking Defence Minister Peter MacKay why his department has dropped a knife supplier based in his own riding in favour of one in China."

It's not her riding, it's McKay's riding - the Defence Minister.

WTF happened to this country that we can't make a knife suitable for the job for a good price?
