Just a few weeks ago, predictions of Arctic ice collapse were buzzing all over the internet. Some scientists were predicting that the "North Pole may be ice-free for first time this summer". Others predicted that the entire "polar ice cap would disappear Comments

If you check this one out, you'll see this years levels have now dipped below 2005's which was the last year 2008 was comparing favourably with on it's route to matching 2007.
On the other hand...there isn't much melt season left for 2008 levels to get there. You should be able to tell in about 12 days what the final result will be, I think.
All the ice gone.. and all those polar bears dead. Ocean has risen 100 feet and all of Indonesia, Phillipines, Japan, Florida and much of Vancouver are all under water. Nuclear radiation has caused horrific mutations and gigantic, 30 foot tall moonbats roam the land, attacking and eating the survivors.
Hope they eat up all those mutated two-mouthed fish that are
taking over Albertan creeks....they're so icky !
So their is a quiet protest going on,civil disobediance they call it.
Now most polars getting shot are because of self defence.
One in Rankin last week and one in whale cove same time.
Their big time pissed all these scientists who have never been here are telling them whats happening to their food supply in the cause of global warming.
The one bear was slim and showed signs of unhealthy diet but the other was fat and very healthy.
It was dispatched by 6 hunters and the animal was butchered on the spot and the meat given to whoever needed it.
This is our land one elder was heard to say.The scientific studies dont reflect whats happening and we have to fill our bellies.
I'll try and reprint the article later, kind of puts a damper on all those who use their so called internet elders as proof of global warming.
There's kind of an interesting argument going on over at the Jennifer Mahorasy blog. Basically it concerns what polar bears can find to eat in times of low ice.
I've come to the conclusion nobody really knows a whole crapload about polar bears. Everybody has an opinion, but nobody really knows. Now me I'd let the Inuit shoot their bears if they wanted to. What they know is probably as credible as what alarmist polar bear scientists like Stirling and Derocher think they know. And at least if you didn't force them to poach, you could keep a credible record.
Speaking of polar bears...

The Innuit here are quite familiar with the beasts,in low ice they swim somewhere else eating a seal along the way untill they hit ice or land, they dont specifically stay on the ice and dont need it to survive, its just where they are and they will follow the food in hard times.
Where most are found is Churchill south of here and its not all ice there either, they use it as a means to migrate in search of food and will walk or swim many miles.
They have been coming up from Churchill along the west coast of the hudson bay all the way to Rankin and as far as Repulse bay in the summer which isnt that normal but not a sign of the planet all of a sudden warming up.
The Innuk who works with me comes from a hunting family and they hunt whale, bear, wolf or anything else they need for food and fur.
I learn lots listening to him talk as do all the other kabluna.
They are pissed the govt is once again cutting of their means of survival in the interest of the eco freaks, never has the food and fuel shortage thats been going on for 3 years addressed.
So their means of protest is the self defence kills of polar bears because whos going to say if a bear banger was shot off before the animal was shot or after.
I've read it in 4 different papers from 4 diff. communities in the Kivallik last few days.
They dont care about drowning polar bears and if one was seen it would be harvested and nothing wasted.
I was also told the story of the men out fishing one night and the fog was thick and they came across a polar bear ten miles from any land, very exhausted and swimming in circles. They came close enough so he could see the lights and then headed for shore as the bear followed. He crawled on shore and lay there for 3 hours btrying to get it's strength back before getting up and moseying of.
They didnt need the meat or fur at the time so helped it out, thats respect for the animals.
