The Samson Cree First Nation in Hobbema, which has been racked with gang violence, is one step away from getting permission to build a resort-style casino.

    A nice new Casino ?
It might not cut all the violence out, but it will mean nice houses,
Escalade SUV's and other perqu's for the Chief and Band Council.

How about you re-take English 30 and learn how to write a proper sentence.

If you are going to belittle people perhaps it is best to do it without the grammar erors.

As long as this goes for the benefit of the band and isn't simply another franchise from Las Vegas. Jobs and the diciplen they require, allong with a cut of thr profits for motivation, is exactly what many bands need.

Funny coincidence, the CBC has new show that's become one of my faves and the last topic was native gambling.

Belittle who? The gang members? Are they going to have jobs in the casino?

Explain to me why they have a lack of employment issue in Alberta?

How is a casino going to address the social ills plaguing the reserve?

Do casinos now hire known gang members?

If someone can learn to do a job in a casino then why can't they learn to swing a hammer, pull a wrench or work in an office?

If gang members can commute to Edmonton to sell drugs why can't they and other residents commute there for honest work?

What if this was me talking about African americans, People would call me racist and a bigot. I noticed on this site very often that the native issues are treated in a way that some Americans treat Black issues, which the rest of the world then brand white Americans as racist and bigots.
I have seen people here say Indians are lazy, sit around for goverment handouts etc. etc. If I said this about Blacks it would be the end of the world. Even if in some caes it is true, I would Most likely would be banned.
    Why is this?
I feel its because the left leaning media has sentationalized the whole issue, and it sells papers and gets air time.

I give Credit to Candaka for speaking up.

Building any business facility is not going to end the violence. It will however provide employment to those who are so inclined to better their financial situation. All reserves do need some sort of industry and a casino will provide the greatest return for dollars invested.

Just wondering, why would anyone want to gamble in a reservation that is riddled with violence?

THese people know how to fish...

    LET THEM FISH.

    Whats the problem here?

Did you know that people with criminal records cannot work in Casinos in Alberta?

Do you think every person in the reserve is a gangster?

Do you like footing the welfare bills for these people?

Does it piss you off that some Indians are going to get high paying jobs and be able to afford nice houses and vehicles because they have good jobs?

Hobbema is one of the reserves that settled with the govt. and everyone got a cash payout.

According to some the crack problem got to the point where young addicts were spending their cheques before they even got them.

Big money like that causes problems on reserves that never had it.
The same thing is happening in Nunavut with the res. school payouts, the jails are now full and the elders are admitting the money is killing their people.
