First, I don't think the creep should be in jail, he should be executed as the vermin that he is. Second, I am opposed to the idea of 'hate crimes' because it means that we have a two tiered society in which some groups receive more protection than another.

I completely agree. There was an assault committed, end of story. I am a white anglo saxon male who should recieve the same sentence for assaulting a white person or anyone else. Why should an assault against someone who doesn't have the same pigment as you be worth more time.
I'm also pretty sure that if I feel the need to assault someone, regardless of colour, sexual orientation etc., I probably am feeling "hatred" towards that person at that time.
