A new study by Statistics Canada reveals that some university-educated immigrants between the ages of 25 to 54 who arrived in Canada within the previous five years were less likely to be employed in 2007 than their Canadian-born counterparts.

How shameful! Our country's employers and citizens continue to step on the immigrants because they know that immigrants offer better skills than what the citizens could offer, so to keep the immigrants to a week influence, they don't hire any foreign migrant workers!

How unfortunate our poor excuse for a Prime Minister (Harper) does nothing to make companies hire more immigrants.

Well, unfortunately, I don't think that it is about immigration, as well as about colour...

No it's because in dirty little countries overloaded with people the degrees are about 1/2 of what they are worth in the states or Canada. That and people like you.

Why don't people understand, this is not the UN, we don't have to accept the liberals policies that were shoved down our throats. It's evident that the citizens of Canada don't follow the Mulit_cult crap the Gov't does.

Get over it. There is no law stating we have to hire them.

And what does having a degree from elsewhere have to do with what it's worth? They both require the same skills, so what makes you think it's of inferior quality to a Canadian or America degree?

you really think so do you ?

and because I do projects all over the world and see what they have to offer. It's not the same. Not even close.

Having a degree is one thing.. the curiculum taken to obtain it is something else..In Canada there are certain qualifications that must be met. There is also of course the language issue and comprehension. In Ontario they are working on evaluating these degrees and developing programs to upgrade them.. Just because one is an immigrant doesn't mean the government should arbitrarily hand out jobs. There is a system in place for an interviewing process and fair competition. If you cut it you cut it,, if you don't you don't.. suck it up

Whoa, be very careful what you say now. I am proud that Canada does not have affirmative action for private companies. We don't need it. Now, that being said, judging by the look of the GTA's racial make up, it will be people like you that will soon wish there was affirmative action, because I'd be damned the day I see an Indian or Pakistani manager hire a white anglo saxon.

The report is positive for me, if 10 years is all it takes to achieve partial parity of incomes, then Canada's got it right. Some countries it takes up to two generations to fully integrate.

Precisely, also not to forget many Canadian companies don't even accept European degrees from top institutions like LSE, Glasgow Poly etc. And Europeans don't accept Canadian degrees as equivalents. USA seems to be the only country that accepts a degree no matter where it is obtained.

The GOVERNMENT doesn't accept the foreign education. You ALWAYS have to obtain Canadian credentials. Even when the foreign ones are more (oh, shit how to say that..) educated (?).

For example... To obtain a Red Seal endorsement as Autotechnician, or Welder, you have to take your exam again. No matter if what you have is better than the RS... Then you just have an easy exam

We also have to take our driverslicence tests all over again, no matter if you drove for 18 years, never been involved in an accident. Only a couple of countries (Like HongKong) can exchange their licenses.

So, what immigrants should do, is suck it up, and take their exams if they are so convinced they have a better education. What is the point of NOT taking it then anyway?

And, most Canadian levels of education are not accepted in a foreign country either.

So suck it up, stop whining, and do what you have to do.
Cab drivers who are really doctors in Pakistan should get their asses to the ITA, their credentials checked, order books, and take their exams. Then they are at par with Canadian education. But they don't. Who's fault is that?

Alot of the cabbies in downtown Toronto just don't seem like the 'educated' type. In some countries you can get a degree printed with a simple bribe. The checks and balances are fine.

    As an immigrant, I agree.

It is very simple. It's not about what Canada can do for you, it is about what you can do for Canada. THEN Canada will do LOTS for you too.

    100% wrong.
Immigrants are brought into Canada because
    1) Capitalism requires constant growth.
    2) Increasing the supply of labour drives down the price of labour for all.

Example. There are thousands of physicians all over the world who would love to come and work in Canada and could do so with little re-training. The CMA makes it so difficult for them to become physicians so that they can keep their wages high.

The same problem does not exist for nurses because the government and the CMA wants nurses wages low.
