The Mohawks are a tough people. When the American Army gave up trying to beat them, the military went West and massacred, death marched, spread diseases among the Indians, right through to California. Harper better start talking to them soon! They are tough!

Get a few bulldozers and snowplows to break through them. Don't we have an army for a reason? Make sure they don't do it

Because of unsettled conflicts with settlers infiltrating into the Mohawk Valley and outstanding treaty obligations to the Crown, the Mohawks fought against the United States during the American Revolutionary War. Most of the Mohawks at the Upper Castle fled to Fort Niagara, while most of those at the Lower Castle fled to Montreal. A few such as the sachem Little Abraham at Fort Hunter remained neutral throughout the war. During this war, Johannes Tekarihoga was the leader of the Mohawks. Johannes Tekarihoga died around 1780, and Catherine Crogan, wife of Joseph Brant, named her brother Henry Crogan as the new Tekarihoga.

    After War Years
After the American victory in the war, one prominent Mohawk war chief, Joseph Brant, led a large group of Iroquois out of New York to a new homeland at Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario. Another Mohawk war chief John Deseronto lead another group of Mohawks to a new homeland on the Bay of Quinte. One large group of Mohawks settled in the vicinity of Montreal, Quebec. From this group descend the Mohawks of Kahnawake, Akwesasne and Kanesatake. One of the most famous Catholic Mohawks was Kateri, who was later beatified.

On November 11, 1794, representatives of the Mohawks (along with the other Iroquois nations) signed the Treaty of Canandaigua with the United States.

Mohawks fought against the United States in the War of 1812. The Mohawk Nation, as part of the Iroquois Confederacy, was recognised for some time by the French government, and the Confederacy was a participant in the Congress of Vienna, having been allied with the French during the War of 1812 which was viewed by the French as part of the Napoleonic Wars. However, in 1842 their legal existence was overlooked in Lord Durham's report on the reform and organization of the Canadas.

Ever notice that native people only conduct blockades during more favorable tempatures ? I.E. blockades only happen in the summer. Proves their lazy with no true convictions behind their message.

I dont like to go to work during a winter storm either, but I do it anyways.

they blocked the 401 and hwy # 2 near the reserve in Ontario. they put a school bus over the train tracks and stopped the train from montreal to toronto.. all they got was a slap on the hand.. they should have put a old train engine on and ploughed the fuckers off the track.. but its all just posturing... the ontario government and the feds are afraid of them... circle the wagons.!

That was 100+ years ago........they're quite a bit softer and depend on the Feds for money. Cut off their pay and see how long they hold out.

Another reason why the gov'ts in Alberta should not negotiate with the Tsu Tina to build a bi-pass on the west side of Calgary. They will never be happy even with the terms that they agree to.

From the pictures you see on TV, red hair, blonde hair, fair complexions, blue eyes, green eyes and hazel eyes, are there any real mohawks left?

Give every man, woman and child of them a million dollars now. It will be cheaper than what we do now. 8 billion a year for 1.3 million Indians....

By the way, I'm gonna blockade the main road into Rome to demand that the Italians compensate me for the Roman "invasion" of my tribal lands ( friggin Romans would have actually kiied us back in the day...jeez). Just waiting for the weather to improve and my government money to come in first...........who's with me????!!!!

ok...all you people really really REALLY need to read a book on First Nations issues, then you will see how HORRIBLY wrong you are, and that all your eurocentric bitching just perpetuates the ignorance and hate that the First Nations have been dealing with for centuries.

there is this issue in Canadian law called duty to consult and accomodate.
Supreme Court Case after case has recognized this right, but it is NEVER practiced and thus the reason for the blocades.

you people have to look deeper into these issues, the first thing that pops into your ignorant RACIST f*cking heads is 'oh these gas sniffing, ciggarette smuggling alcoholics just want more money'

The First Nations are fighing for issues GUARINTEED TO THEM IN TREATIES, Treaty rights of the First Nations were ENTRENCHED IN OUR CONSTITUTION S.35!!!! but the government STILL doesn't recognize or affirm what THEY ARE UNDER OATH TO!!!

I hear you ignorant f*cks throw around the rule of law when you are disgussing sanctions placed or not placed on the protestors....I laugh at that almost as hard as when I read a Supreme Court Judge refer to a lesser judge as 'my learned collegue' right before he tears that 'learned' judge's verdict appart. Let me spell this out for you...The rule of law is a f*cking fairy tail! Look at all the shit the higher ups are getting away with, embezelment, drug use, insider trading and shit we couldn't begin to imagine. Rule of law hahaha what a f-ing farce. it's like communism...looks real good on paper...but add people into the mix and it becomes just another arm of oppression and corruption.

here, I'll give you ignorant f*cks some words to wikipedia:

    Treaty
    Feduciary rights
    R v. Sparrow
    Aboriginal Title - R v. delgamuukw
RCAP (Royal Commission on Aboriginal People)
    GENOCIDE!!!!

ah and a good website that will show you why the Aboriginals might be a little ticked at us hiddenfromhistory.org

read that and you will but SCRATCH THE SURFACE of the horrible state of affairs we are in with the First Nations People.
