Canada has remained mum on the issue partly because recognizing a unilateral declaration of independence could allow Quebec separatists to claim they could leave Canada the same way -- with a one-sided declaration Comments

hope the Europeans will stay strong on this issue.
I am afraid you might be right, Bart.
Also why take sides? Serbians are nationalist extremist, and Albanians religious extremist. Both are as irrational.
UN will probably end up having to go to Kosovo with blue berrets to keep a genocide from happening soon.
"This dangerous precedent will obviously have a long-term effect on many separatist movements all over the globe, starting from the last corner of Southeast Asia to the northernmost parts of America," Batakovic said.
What do you think he's referring to? Taiwan and Quebec obviously.

already there.. 16,000 strong.. wont be leaving soon i'll bet.
Only positive news is the UN seems to be being kicked out of Mitrovica..
If Serbia is divisible, so is Kosovo......
I made a friend in the Ikariam game we've been playing from Romania, seems most people there are also apposed to Kosovo independence. I think this will upset more people and states that it will appease.
How is the UN being kicked out positive? They're not there to wreak havoc, merely to maintain 'peace and good order' (Canadian constitution).
are the Albanian Kosovars..
cant imagine anyone east of the old Iron curtain who supports this..
and the ones in the West just flat out dont get it..
the Serbs in the city have been attacking UN forces.. they pulled back for
'security' reasons.. the city is basically divided by a river,
North is Serb, south is Albanian..
There are many Serbians immigrants around my area, I heard a lot about it.
The three main words they used were 'hate, terrorists, and bastards.' Their speech was also seriously filled with nationalism, an ideology based on irrationality just like religious extremists.
Then please explain to us.

ok, open the history books and go back to 1389............
before Columbus, before Mayflower, before lots.
Ottoman Turks defeat Christian Serbs in Kosovo, which was Serb territory.
btw, the Turks go all the way to Vienna before they are stopped, in 14something.
1878.. Kosovo is over 90% Serb, and becomes not for the first time
officially part of Serbia... but is the last time it changes hands.
The Albanians in Serbia begin having babies.. lots of them.. kinda like the Palestinians.
Slowly, the balance of population shifts, until now the region is 90% Albanian.
the 'hate' is the triple crown...linguistic, cultural, religous differences..
only thing missing for the grand slam is skin color..
'terrorists', obviously refers to the KLA kosovo liberation army, which for the past number of years has been operating as an insurgent group inside Kosovo..
attacking police, murdering civilians, etc etc.
'bastards' is kinda obvious
their nationalism goes very deep into their history.. although they were defeated by the Turks, Serbs beleive they were instrumental in stopping the
invasion of Islam in Europe..
having lived here for a while, i havent found anyone who contradicts this idea.
They have been attacked by Turks, Christians (Serbs are Orthodox),
and more recently by Germans, and now of course by us..
and they continue to survive.. it is more than a thousand years of this..
blood, invasion, conquest, defeat, victory
In Canada, by comparison, we have no idea what nationalism really is..
probably why we find it a bit much when we see it.

Well said.
We just don't understand 1000 years of hatred. Hopefully we never will.
This is just a dumb move on our part. Saying nothing costs us nothing. Saying something now opens all sorts of doors. Most of them bad.

Yes I agree four-square.
