    1. It's not America.
    2. It's not well publicized.
    3. Free trade agreements are a dime a dozen today.

For the same reason there is no sense closing the gate when the horses have already left the open stable. No point, it's a done deal now.

    Good stuff, Canada.

It would be better if we didn't have to sign all these agreements and just got it done through the WTO. But since its being held hostage by farmers in America, Europe and Japan, this will do.

Mr. Emerson also announced Saturday the signing of a free trade agreement with the four countries of the European Free Trade Association Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

The free trade agreement is Canada's first with European countries, the government said. Negotiations on that pact wrapped up last June.

This will open up opportunities by bringing down trade barriers and by providing Canadian business a foothold in the heart of Europe, Mr. Emerson said.

The government said the EFTA is Canada's eighth largest merchandise export destination. In 2006, two-way merchandise trade was valued at $10.7-billion, while two-way investment reached more than $22-billion.

    Now that's news to me.

    EU refusniks? or deserters?
