OTTAWA Just days after the first handguns were issued to Canadas border guards, one had to draw his sidearm at a British Columbia crossing to control a bizarre character whose car was bristling with weaponry.

think allowing them to carry guns so they can properly protect border was long overdue . and is necessary tool when patroling border where drugs and guns are being smuggled into country .

This doesn't speak of over-zealousness on the part of the border gaurds (which I'm sure some will see) but it spells out the long-overdue need for armed border gaurds. I'm sure incidents like this happened all the time but that they either went underreported and / or they were much more awkward and dangerous to deal with before. Way to go to those officers! Finally, Canada is stepping up to the plate and getting serious about it's security.
