Ontario's Liberal government is promising a new Family Day statutory holiday in February if it is re-elected on Oct. 10. Workers get statutory holidays off with pay or must be paid overtime if they work.

Jealous? Nah. I'm in school I get enough holidays. I just think placing holidays all willy nilly is just dumb.

One long weekend every month is not willy nilly.

Sure it is, why do you need one every month.

The only reason Alberta started this was because Premier Don Gettys son got busted for cocaine and Don figured we needed more family time together. Now that is lame, Im not sure if this holiday curded his sons drug problem or not. The only people that didnt like it was the Federal employees who didnt get this day off. I think most of them get it off now.

this holiday was announce one week or around same time as start of our last provincial election campaign .
it was actually announced same time as opposition conservative leader was announcing his campaign launch , not saying it was an election stunt but anyways its here now for real .

mself it didn't do anything to excite me , and have no idea what if anything there is to do during monday in winter up here anyways .
would of rather seen a extra holiday during fall or summer months , i'm not really a winter person .

But according to the forum's greatest, most enlightened political pundit, Ryan29, all McGuinty does is break promises. So, according to his sound logic, Family Day will be retracted soon. And we all know Ryan's not wrong about politics...

It's a great idea even if it was pure political grandstanding
