A report released Friday recommends sweeping changes to the RCMP, which would include establishing the force as a separate entity from the federal government, with its own civilian board of managers and its own organization to handle complaints.

so after complaining about all the paperwork and administration, the answer is to create a new commission.. makes perfect sense.

I think a national police service, free from political control is a good thing. The mounties have fucked up in so many ways of late, change is needed.

I also think that the civilian oversight board will go a long way to restoring their luster. I think people to believe in the RCMP as a force for good and this would help give them that faith that rather than the RCMP just declaring their violent encounters with people as righteous, there would be independent verification of such.

    Agreed. Perception is everything.
