* A legal battle is raging in Manitoba between doctors who want to take an 84-year-old man off life support and his family who says pulling the plug would be tantamount to murder according to their religious beliefs.

If nothing else, the Latimer case has shown us that all life in Canada is sacred, no matter how bad the quality of that life is. They'd better keep this guy hooked up.

Hmm..I worked for many years with the elderly.
I was asked by many to let them die in piece and with dignity. on life support at 85 is not quality of life.. it is artificial..if religion plays a part then why not stop the artificial supports and put your faith and trust in God? fact is on a respirator and with medicine and nutritional support the man could be there 50 yrs from now..
it their religion is so important why not put it in to practise and leave it in Gods hands

I'd say we have to follow the will of the family here. I disagree with them, but if that's what they want for their relative, so be it.

On the other hand, won't help any potential bed shortage. :/ Crazy how keeping a vegetable like that guy alive could just end up killing or at least hurting someone else because there are no beds available, or something. (Unless the guy is in a building meant for that very purpose, which is entirely possible)

'Twould be nice if they guy could wake up just for a second and tell everyone what he wants. That would really solve it all, wouldn't it?
