Celine Dion cancelled a concert in Halifax because local radio and newspaper reports continually insulted her, the singer's husband and manager Rene Angelil said Tuesday.
First the Concert is cancelled because the Commons were considered "inappropriate" for Celine Dions "elaborate production. We had the Stones last year and they had no problem with Halifax Commons. Now they are blaming the local bad press. Like she never got bad press before. This is an artist who sells out all her concerts. I am sure that she gets a bit of bad press before any concerts.
Their professionalism is as good as any artist leaving mid-concert.
A concert on the Commons did not appear to cramp the tours style until it ran up against another outdoor venue with greater potential. Two days before Halifax got the boot, confirmation came that the songstress would play on the Plains of Abraham on Aug. 22, 2008, as part of celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City.
The next night, she was supposed to be in Halifax an impossible turnaround. Even if the Halifax concert had been delayed a couple of days, it would have been difficult to make it all the way back to Toronto for the next date at the Air Canada Centre on Aug. 27.
What a sleeze, blaming it on bad press. I know big shows often have more than one stage show operating to squeeze in shows, but the fact that the new venue immediately prededed the cancellation is an obvious hint that they didn't want to bother with the show.

Quebec obviously approached after she booked Halifax and she said yes. She turned around and cancelled Halifax. Case closed. The lack of continuity between her promoter and manager (husband) are sickening. Tell the truth and admit that you did a mistake.
Or they booked it because they would cancel Halifax for the reasons mentioned. Most of the Halifax media cranked up and bashed her, including radio stations.
When someone sings for the money, they wont cancel a show. If a star sings just for the love of it, they would cancel on the spot.
And if you are right, then it wouldnt be new. She has cancelled concerts around the world multiple times for shows or events in Qubec.
Their professionalism is as good as any artist leaving mid-concert.
Bravo Celine, Bravo Ren. Fucking BRAVO.
I hope you get a lot of bad press.
If you cancel a concert over this (a few journalists...) how much do you "love your fans"? Who are paying you again???
What a pussies..
Let her stay in Vegas, so he can play his poker
Proves it's more about the gimmickery than the music.
I'm glad. Nobody bought the initial claims that the venue was 'not appropriate'.
Mayor Kelly had the orginizor in his office before they booked they stop in Halifax. They knew exactly what they were getting into.
