Why should he? None of his family members have been killed in Afghanistan. Either way, the 5 families there today were there at the invitation of CDS Hillier. And if Layton had been there, all you'd be doing is ripping on him for trying to take some of the limelight of the grieving family members.

The Afghanistan and Iraq wars have become nothing but a sad joke.

Young people loosing their lives for what?

    Osama Bin Forgotten??

How do you fight an Ideology, Radical Islam. It's impossible with guns and bullets, you create more hatred. Education is the only solution over generations.

All these wars are nothing but sustained wars to funnel money mysterious and seemingly to bottomless slush funds from taxpayers and bankrupting our future generations.

How can they presume to speak for Canadians and Canadian soldiers when they won't talk to them?
So far the only one I heard that went over was NDP Military Critic Dawn Black, and to say she has no clue wouls be as diplomatic as possible. The NDP has as little experience with the military as do fish with spark plugs.

    What can $611 billion buy?
"U.S. drivers consume approximately 384.7 million gallons of gasoline a day. Retail prices averaged $3.00 a gallon in early November. Breaking it down, $611 billion could buy gasoline for everybody in the United States, for about 530 days."

"In fiscal 2008, Medicare benefits will total $454 billion, according to a Heritage Foundation summary. The $611 billion in war costs is 17 times the amount vetoed by the president for a $35 billion health."

"According to World Bank estimates, $54 billion a year would eliminate starvation and malnutrition globally by 2015, while $30 billion would provide a year of primary education for every child on earth. At the upper range of those estimates, the $611 billion cost of the war could have fed and educated the world's poor for seven years."

"At almost $15 billion, Boston's Central Artery project has been held up as the nation's most expensive public works project. Now multiply that by 40 and you're getting close to US taxpayers commitment to democracy in Iraq so far."

"At published rates for this year, $611 billion translates into almost 14 million free rides for a year at Harvard University. Tuition and fees at the University of Massachusetts-Boston could be paid for over 53 million years."

Have you heard of the military's 300 dollar hammer and 500 dollar toilet seat.

You just know there are Billions of dollars being placed into Bush/Cheney business buddies back pockets, with the threat of being shot on a hunting trip if you divulgue the information to the public.
