    This is monsterous.
I doubt this is some slight accident because I doubt the dangerous chemical is cheaper than the safe, approved formulation.

I can see that as being an accidental. Chemical engineers working at a toy company aren't likely to have the best knowledge on the compounds used to make drugs. And the article said that the body turns the ingested chemicals into the date rape drug, so it is not found in the beads themselves.

Another fine product brought to you by foreign firms taking advantage of lax regulation in China.

The product was not immediately recalled, but officials ordered stores to pull Bindeez off their shelves and urged parents to hide the toys from their children.

    Not Immediately recalled :?: :?: :?: :?:

Hide the toys as opposed to throwing them out :?: :?: :?: :?:

The other strange thing - why would a 10 year old eat "large quantities" of plastic beads?

    Because he's an idiot?

Or perhaps has a disability that may render his/her mind in a state of early childhood.

Here goes another excuser of the Chinese oppressors.

Yes, it's us western types that make the Chinese stick lead and GHB in toys. I think Mattel actually asked for extra lead this time.

Why do all you lefties like China so?

It isn't so much that they like China, it's that they hate the West.

So you are implying that the "Chinese oppressors" marched down to the bead factory and put GHB in the toys? Maybe you should get over there a soldier them up something fierce!

Mattel has to accept responsibility for what happens in its factories. You're an idiot if you think there was anything sinister going on with lead in the toys. They used shitty, cheap paint because Mattel is over there to produce shitty, cheap toys.
