About 4,700 residents of the Alberta mountain town of Jasper and visitors to Jasper National Park have been forced to evacuate after a wildfire roared into the area late Monday night.

It's just breaking my heart. People I know who still live there have mostly fled, but for my old friend who is Fire Chief.

Two hotels are known destroyed on the West side of town. South side fire is threatning the Jasper park Lodge.

People in the back country have to be airlifted out. I assume that is where my friend is, as he flies Helo for Parks Canada as a side hustle.

A place I used to live was on the east fringe of town. It might be at risk too. That would be beyond coincidence if multiple places I have lived have been destroyed by climate enhanced fires, in two different towns. It's a pattern.

Just saw a thread. Heartbreaking. Just gut wrenching. Jasper is the new Lytton.

I have heard that 30 - 50% of town has been razed. R=EM

Just heartbreaking. It seems like every year we lose a town. Fort MacMurray. Lytton. Now Jasper.

Hard to tell from that map, but it's likely that a place I used to live in Jasper no longer exists. That's 3 places I used to live destroyed by wildfire.

I am starting to take this personally.

Richard Ireland's (Mayor of Jasper) home was destroyed by the fire too, as well as two of the gas stations (Petro Canada and Esso/7-11) in town.

You'd think we'd have learned from Slave Lake...or Fort Mac...or Lytton...or any of the dozens of evacuations last year in Alberta, but it seems like Albertans refuse to learn from the past. Sigh...

Don't let her developer pals give her ideas. Now it's all ready to plow and pave over and turn it into Disneyland North. Incentives to build firebreaks with a new Trump Golf Course

National Parks are Federal responsibility. Smith should stay in her lane.

See! It was all Trudeau's fault!
