Hurricane Fiona has the potential to be a severe storm for parts of Atlantic Canada this weekend. Environment Canada issued hurricane and post-tropical storm watches for much of the Atlantic region on Thursday afternoon.
Just...ugly. Worried about the trees. Hardwoods don't bend to hurricanes and then high tide is in a few hours as well with the highest tides in the world.
Brother and Sis are without power but my brother has a generator, Mum is fine. She is on the same power grid that the hospital is on so it only went down once. She said the wind was like a sandstorm on the windows. All the leaves are stripped from the trees that are left standing.
Good to hear Scape. It must have been a huge relief to get word from them that they are coping with it but safe anyway.
The footage they are showing on CTV and CBC is absolutely awful. There is little emergency crews can even begin to do until the wind and rain settles down. Hopefully people heed the advice to stay off the streets unless absolutely necessary and to just wait it out. Now that they have authorized Canadian forces to go to assist I'm sure they will make every effort to get at least some essential services running again once the worst of the weather passes.
Hopefully the majority of people have taken all reasonable measures to prepare and that there is no loss of lives during this storm.
Does anyone here have relatives or friends who are in the path?
