Another British Columbia community has been devastated by a raging wildfire and more could be at risk from a blaze between Kamloops and Vernon in the province's southern Interior.

    Yes, it's tragic. But it's also nature's way to renew itself.

    It's our fault on so many levels. We build communities where fires are regular. We build too close to the fuel. We stop fires from using all that fuel, so when it burns it burns even hotter and longer and we can't put it out. And we fuck up the environment to make it all worse.

    My birthplace and where I spent all of my childhood summers on my grandparent's farm is under evacuation alert. It will break my heart if the fire reaches where those summers were spent as, though what was my family's farm has been subdivided into 4 properties now, the house my grandfather built around 1950 is still there.
