Opinion: Alberta’s report on anti-energy campaigns looks like a multimillion-dollar dud

Shortly after winning power in the spring of 2019, Jason Kenney announced a public inquiry into Canadian environmental organizations behind what he branded a nefarious, highly sophisticated campaign to defame the province’s energy industry and landlock

10 years... 3.5 million tax dollars squandered hundreds of careers ruined and a massive witch hunt.

    Results: predictable.

I got a kick out of what Greenpeace said about the pre-report:

"If I got this as an undergrad paper, I would ask them to resubmit or take a failure," Stewart said.

It's funny how they look into funding for the ant-oil movement, but ignored the funding for the pro-oil movement.

We have plenty of reason to be pissed off at federal policy (coughequalizationcoughguncontrolcough) but sometimes we're our own worst enemies.

That's what, nearly $34 million that we've wasted on this nonsense when you add in the war room, and when the likes of Preston Manning, Peter Lougheed and Jack Mintz were warning the rest of us we needed to get our act together a good decade or more ago?

One long-standing fact of Alberta history is that no political party that's lost power has ever regained it. I wouldn't be surprised if Rachel Notley breaks that trend and wins the next election.

I keep thinking that Alberta's politics are going to become more like those of the other Western provinces, where the provincial NDP keeps rotating in and out of government and trading sides of the legislature with a conservative opposition.

It was, after all, Manning who said that politicians are like diapers in needing to be changed every so often and for the same reasons.

Anyone who was paying attention saw that when he moved from Ontario and Federal Politics to be shoehorned into a new party and the Premier position.

And the results of the multi million dollar inquire?

Allan inquiry analysis finds less than 5 per cent of foreign green funds targeted Alberta oilsands

Wow. 5%. And even so, what does that actually matter? Sweet fuck all. Is there any law on the books as to what a foreign entity can spend their money on locally?

I would, er eh ah, object to that assessment, ah, partly because I was dead for, er eh, some fifty-odd years before the, er eh ah, the inquiry was launched.

    Vote Quimby.
