Part of a beachfront condo tower collapsed in the Miami-area town of Surfside early Thursday morning, killing at least one, trapping residents in rubble and twisted metal and sending a cloud of debris through the neighbourhood.
I just saw video on the news of this building collapse. Unreal how fast that section of the building came down. I'd be concerned now for the searchers as I wouldn't trust the stability of the rest of that building.
It's a reminder that the way we build things; that they are falling all the time, but that fall is temporarily suspended and can start again in an instant.
"The failed waterproofing is causing major structural damage to the concrete structural slab below these areas," he wrote. "Failure to replace the waterproofing in the near future will cause the extent of the concrete deterioration to expand exponentially."
Morabito also said concrete columns, beams and walls in the garage were showing "abundant cracking," including areas underneath the pool with "exposed, deteriorating rebar." Morabito could not be reached for comment on Friday.
*facepalm*
That report was made THREE YEARS AGO and nothing ended up happening to address the issues soon enough. This is why I hold animals in higher regard than humans. Humans are idiots.
The deaths and injuries related to the collapse were needless and preventable.
- ignore it - pay off local officials to get out of having to fix it
It's Florida. The place is basically America's Italy with over half the infrastructure on the verge of collapse and the corruption so endemic that nothing will be fixed or changed no matter how many bodies pile up. And if you think it's feral in Florida now wait another 30 years when half the state is underwater from rising ocean levels - they'll be eating each other in what remains of the streets down there.
No joke. It's one of the most fucked-up places in all the the US, and that's saying something these days.

What's worse is that in the article, they write that the building collapsed without warning but that the report said there was major structural damage beneath the pool deck and "concrete deterioration" in the underground parking garage.
No, what's disgusting is a political climate so corrupt that people end up dying in large numbers because of someone on the take. Your being mad at me won't do anything to make that truth more comfortable for you. Florida is one of the most vicious places for all sorts of crime in the US, especially for that sort of white-collar and official corruption. When the bodies are still fresh is the exact time to say these sorts of truths because that's the only time anyone ever pays any real attention to what's going on. All pearl-clutching does is ensure the system remains broken and that the grifters never get held to account.

Engineer had warned of structural damage to collapsed Florida condo building
I read about that this morning.

Easier to:
- ignore it
- pay off local officials to get out of having to fix it

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.

How much fucking warning do you need?
Your being mad at me won't do anything to make that truth more comfortable for you.
Dude, I'm not mad at you whatsoever. I'm pissed off at the people who let this fucking shit show happen to the extent it did.
