Still recovering from the blow of losing the Conservative leadership race, Peter MacKay has quite a to-do list ahead of him: figure out why he lost, retire roughly $1 million in campaign debt andfind a new job or try to get his old one back.

    Brilliant!

Faced with mounting debt, he decides to spend more money. That is the Neo-Conservative way.

He was always a liberal in a blue suit, that's why he lost the leadership bid.

That's why we can't have good leaders.

Even if you are the perfect person for the job, you still have to come up with megabucks to apply for the job.

That's why our choices are starting to look as bad as the ones the US has. :(

That's the reason why the Conservatives are probably going to be in the Opposition for a long time - anyone who isn't far right is a 'liberal'.

The problem with this stance is that millenials and even some Gen Z - the vast majority of whom are left of centre or moderate - are voting now and are going to reduce the hold on politics Boomers have had for a couple decades.

Scheer thought he could use a far right platform to win an election, and he couldn't even get a minority when Trudeau was dealing with the scandals and blackface - odds are O'Toole isn't going to do any better going forward.

If Scheers far right policies didn't get him elected why did Trudeau's far left policies succeed?

Given recent history it seems to me that, the Millennial's and Gen Z'ers are far more likely to be adherents of the far left rather than middle of the road voters. So, it's highly unlikely they'd ever vote for a Conservatives no matter what the party policies were because even middle of the road Conservatives would be diametrically opposed to their political biases.

Don't be a social conservative. That's literally all it takes. Social conservatives aren't going to turn around and vote Liberal or NDP because they run a social liberal. So they aren't likely to lose that vote, unless some super far right party comes up. People my age and under almost universally will not tolerate social conservatives anymore.

That's pretty much what he wrote. Everyone in the center is a "Liberal" to the CPC, so Millenials and GenXers are not going to vote CPC because they lean centrist.

And like Tricks wrote, they also lean Socially Liberal, which the CPC does not. And it is leaning more socially conservative with every new leader. Just look at the lack of uproar when Leslyn Lewis threatened to re-open the abortion debate.
