so?? has anyone noticed we have one of the coldest climates of any of the G20 nations? and the largest land mass? so of course we use more in transportation and heating etc...that isn't going to change...

Believe it or not, you can heat your home with electricity instead of natural gas. And electric vehicles are getting to the point where in a couple years, they will be as good, or better than ICE vehicles, look at what's coming in 2021:

What do we use to create that power? Coal? Hydro? Natural Gas? Fusion? Fission? Solar? Wind?

All pollute in some form or another.

Some less than others. The point being, ICE has only one pollution stream, electric can be varied or zero.

Ideally fusion, but until then, a mix of solar, wind, fission, and hydro would suffice. We can even use natural gas to wean ourselves off coal and oil in the short term (say the next 20 years), but we cannot keep burning fossil fuels indefinitely.

I know we're not going to switch over tomorrow (or even in the next decade), but the longer we wait, the higher the cost our society will pay (in terms of disasters and suffering).

Okay I'm not trying to be funny with this. Didn't you do the carbon tax to make sure something like this didn't happen?

The carbon taxes were supposed to be used for the so-called "transition" but it reality they'll end up in the black hole of general revenues and used for everything but that which they were intended for.

It's also not a tax, it's a levy. The funds collected do not go into general revenue, but get returned or spent on technologies to reduce emissions.

So within a 2-5 more years Canada wont be the worst offender of the G20?

So they say. If Alberta is any example of how not to invest public dollars, tax or levy, into new tech start-ups then the businesses that receive the carbon funds will be as huge of a boondoggle as any of the previous money-dumps turned out to be.

You never know. In Alberta, everyone cries that the Oil industry is failing, but the renewable energy industry is the only one with growth.

Only if you believe the politicians. Personally, I'm not that stupid.

If we actually keep going with a carbon tax/levy, then it's certainly possible for us to improve. However, if Canada takes a step backwards like Alberta did (which cancelled its levy), then we'll likely still be the worst.

This one of the many projects Alberta's old carbon levy provided some funding for:

Seriously though, Alberta's levy supported new transit projects (EV buses, LRT, etc.), adding solar panels to sports facilities, transitioning to LED lights from incandescent, etc. This article gives you some idea of what it funded:
