Russia will launch the world's first floating nuclear reactor and send it on an epic journey across the Arctic on Friday, despite environmentalists warning of serious risks to the region.

    So.. would these be super large marine style reactors or are they floating regular power station reactors that rely on gravity out to sea? Or is this something different altogether? I don't know what tsunami proof reactor means.
    I'm sure it will be fine. Also Canada should have done this first.

    They are modified submarine reactors.

    And no, Canada should absolutely not have fucked up this bad first. ;)

    All 'Tsunami proof' is implying is what happened at Fukushima - the generator used to power the safety systems there was swamped by the sea, and the plant had no power to shut down.

    Well I feel better that it's at least marine reactors, same thing is already roaming the planet so what's another one up north?

    The North East passage, yes.

    Whether Canada steps up with military stations etc. in the NW passage, we have yet to see. But Russia has been securing the North East passage since it began thawing. Nuclear stations to power their bases are just the first step. 8O

    Maybe they plan on melting the ice cap and blaming it on Global Warming.
