Indians are voting in the next-to-last round of 6-week-long national elections, marked by a highly acrimonious campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi flaying the opposition Congress party rival Rahul Gandh's family for the country's ills.
You're right about the numbers. They're mind boggling and beyond comprehension for someone in a country of 36 million people. Another thing I found interesting is that they get a 60% turnout of voters which is comparable to what we get here in Canada in a much more voter friendly environment.
I also find it interesting that they're using voting machines a fact which might simplify the system and eliminate the need to hand count votes but, as we've seen south of the border, are prone to hacking an manipulation. Can you imagine the issues that'd arise if they had a Florida style issue to resolve in one of their states.
But, at 9.5 billion dollars per election (or as we in Canada like to call it, what Trudeau spent yesterday) how many years are there between elections. Because, if elections are held every 4 years it seems like it wouldn't take long for the country to go broke and given the logistics involved, drive the people responsible for organizing something this size, insane.

I wonder if illegal aliens get to vote in India or is it just citizens?
