Firearms are where the federal Liberals get to be all Trump-like and do something that makes their base orgasmic-level happy. That what they opt to do will be in complete defiance of all known police and justice ministry facts about firearms and who commits the vast majority of crimes with them is merely a side-issue. What they do, most likely draconian clamping down on legal firearms owners, won't affect Liberal voters so they have no reason not to go for broke and be as oppressive to non-criminals as they want to be. It'll soothe some fears in Toronto, which is the entire point, even though it's the Toronto mayor and city council that are entirely responsible for the epidemic of shootings in that city as a result of their left-wing war on their own police department.

Don't expect this to make sense. It never will. It's a particular and peculiar Canadian way of doing things.
