The B.C. NDP promised to end the grizzly bear trophy hunt, but there are few details about how and when a ban would be implemented as the September hunt rapidly approaches.

I'd support a ban on foreign hunters but allow BC residents to hunt though the numbers should be very limited.

I'm fine with a trophy hunt for Grizzly bears, with only one or two stipulations.....

Anyone hunting a Grizzly Bear in a trophy hunt ....

    (A) use only a long bow and arrows, no crossbows allowed OR....

    (B) if using a firearm, it must be a muzzle loader shooting only black powder, percussion caps allowed for ignition.

A large Bowie type knife may also be used if the other weapon doesn't get the job done!
At least in these cases the bears will have somewhat of a chance.

Just noticed a guy on FB going nuts over this cuz he likes bear meat. Not that you trophy hunt for the meat..

Two down there's a "how do you like your steak on the BBQ?" post with a picture of rare, med, well done etc.
The same guy picked the one cooked to fucking death. And commented he ain't eating no wormy shit!
    Hmmmmm.......

Fuck trophy hunting. The only way I'd ever agree to it would be if we were hunting stupid people for those trophy's.

And here's the first person who should be put over a fireplace.

I'd go for a limited trophy hunt - if they could hunt us back. ;) Stop shooting animals that come into towns and cities that are on what used to be their ranges.

It's starting to work well in India. Tigers are allowed to take a little livestock, so long as they leave people alone. Farmers plan for this, and mate a few extras to allow for culling. But if a human is killed, the tigers will face wrath. So, they leave people alone.

I'd support a ban on permit revenue and tourism revenue from foreign hunters and a corresponding increase in unemployment in the tourism sector...

    FTFY.

I don't care about trophy hunting when it's managed properly.

For instance: Say a grizz is identified as a danger and it has to be put down.

You can pay someone to kill it or you can let some idiot with too much money pay to do it for you and then use that money for conservation.

You're stupid as fuck if you don't go for option #2.

Trophy hunting of any creature should be banned everywhere.

The cop or conservation officer who puts down a danger bear is already getting paid.
No one wants to let it stumble about while they round up and fly in some yee-haw with a permit.
Plus, I've never even heard of a "trophy" pest...

It's not black and white thought. Let's look at option #2. Bear needs to be put down. So, do you sell it to the highest bidder? Have a yearly lottery, and if one needs to be put down the person a the top of the list does it?

And in the meantime, what if it kills someone?

Now the options. There is a bear, right now who keeps leaving the park and all momma Griz wants to do is eat berries. But if she keeps leaving the park and eating berries where she is likely to come into human contact, she'll be put down.

    So, what's the solution?

Bear advocate Kim Titchener, who runs the education group Bear Safety and More, says volunteers have been out helping provincial crews remove Buffalo berries, which are currently ripening in the valley and attracting bears.

" trying to make the Quarry Lake area in Canmore not as appealing an area to come hang out, because that's where she's been getting into trouble with people. So we're hoping she'd turn around when she discovers there's no delicious food to eat," Titchener said.

Move the berries! No one has to die that way.

I'd say that pretty much 90%+ of problem animals are that way because of stupid humans.

Maybe we're not taking the right trophies.

That's why I say, let them hunt us back! Cull the herd of the slow and overconfident. ;)

I used to get that sort of fear when I used to hunt. It wakes you up, makes things a little clearer to know that at night you aren't the top predator in the forest. Gives you a little perspective to think a big cat could be stalking you right 'now'. Gives you a little more respect as well, for the things that have to eke out a living from what they find out there.
