Like Riel, some will view him as a terrorist, some as a hero.

During the time I worked in Telecoms we were contracted to upgrade a telephone exchange in Belfast. During that time I saw first hand the carnage perpetrated by the McGuinness henchmen on innocent people. There is always two sides to a story but this guy was a bastard of the first order.

My grandmother (1899-1993) used to tell me of British atrocities against the Irish and the Scots-Irish and she made the point to make sure that I knew our family had fled Ireland to the USA to escape the British.

While I certainly feel for the victims of IRA terror I also understand that you can't systematically oppress people and expect them never to fight back.
