She still won't accept any responsibility for Reena Virk's death and until she does she shouldn't be given any benefits which, brings up the question about conjugal visits. Why the fuck should we be paying for her incarceration, her criminal lovers incarceration and now her baby's upbringing?
The system is fucked.
Completely rehabilitated.................not.

The article does say that she took responsibility for the crime at a parole hearing in May 2016, following years of repeatedly denying her involvement.
But that's just too convenient... it was easy for her to figure out that if she continued to deny it, she'd never get any perks.
Damn her for coming up in the news every so often with her whining demands. I wish she would just rot away somewhere quietly.
This decision is a slap in the face to the family who was devastated that horrible day.
If Ellard gets though these escorted absences without problems, future ones can be authorized
As usual, some old toad spews complete bullshit and the get off my lawn gang gets all fired up over the failing legal system.
Escorted leave to take your baby to the doctor =/= parole

Escorted leave to take your baby to the doctor =/= 'let out on parole'

Exactly.
I'm pretty sure she's got mental health issues that make her think she did nothing wrong. She could have been released when Warren Glowatski was but she refused to admit guilt and when you combine that with the fact she can't handle authority it's apparent why she's still in prison.

Sorry, but if you don't like other people airing their opinions on current topics because you disagree with them then you're in the wrong place and if the best you can do is insult the authors by age and inference to non human species then it's apparent you have no argument to validate your complaint.
But since you appear to be a progressive type of guy how about this. If you want people like Kelly Ellard walking the streets. Why don't you get your ass down to the John Howard Society and volunteer to turn your home into a halfway house and take people like her in since the system works and all the people put on parole and released are now upstanding citizens.
Is not an opinion, it's bullshit.
Besides, I'll just turn your silly argument about. How goddam long do you think she should serve? She got life for 2nd degree, no parole for 7 years and now it's 11 years later. She's granted some escorted leave and you want to represent it as being granted total freedom, not even parole.
I've got no doubts you've seen video of where she's detained and it twists your guts because it's simply not bleak enough, it has a childcare area and furniture and even a TV. A budget motel behind barbed wire you'll equate to Hilton accommodations like you'd stay at on holiday if one could afford more than Motel 6, right?
I really don't enjoy the pigeon-holing bit, but it seems that's what people enjoy most placing themselves within one. I mean the "justice" part IS the "punishment", right?
If you think people don't and can't change, you can always ensure that a 37 year old will remain a 15 year old criminal by locking them up to interact only with similar social misfits forever.
"Asks for parole - and is granted it"

I have no problem with her being released but, only when she's been rehabilitated and poses no threat. This woman has shown zero remorse for her actions during the last 20 years and now, she claims that she's changed but my guess is all she's doing is what she thinks the system and parole board want to hear.
She has a history that proves my point.
The hearing, before a two-person panel, took place at the Fraser Valley Institution in Abbotsford, B.C., where Ellard is serving a life sentence.
Parole board regional spokesman Patrick Storey said the board was not convinced the 33-year-old was ready to be released into the community yet.
"She still seems to be minimizing many aspects of the offence," Storey said. "We want to see more evidence."
'If it wasn't for her, Reena might not have died'
Ellard was 15 in November 1997, when she smashed Virk's head into a tree and held her under water until she stopped moving.

Polowek said Wednesday she was concerned about the "many varying versions of events" Ellard had provided over the years. Her file was filled with examples of "sneakiness or manipulation," in which she denied incidents or refused to take full responsibility, the board member said.
"I wonder: Is there more to come?" she asked.
Check thpse dates. They aren't from years ago they're from last year, less than a year ago. But in her defense she's now apparently admitted "some" culpability in Reena Virks death.
Also, before Ellard was finally convicted she had 3 trials and was out on bail in 04 when she assaulted a woman in New Westminster. She wasn't finally incarcerated for the crime of 2nd degree murder until 2009 so by her and her lawyers manipulations she was a part time resident of the penal system for 9 years making it hard to quantify her time in prison.

I can' help but get the feeling that some keep equating her gender and pregnancy with rehabilitation which is ridiculous and if that's all it takes to get out of prison I'm surprised that alot more women haven't used this ploy. Besides her choice of a father pretty shows just how much she wants to get away from the criminal lifestyle. Although in fairness, maybe he's the one who made the bad choice.

I also wonder why she was denied escorted absences in Jan 2017 then there was a sudden change of heart by the authorities allowing it in February especially after them pointing out her manipulative tendencies. So until she can show she's really changed over a much longer period of time I'll keep saying she doesn't deserve to be let out period. Pregnant or not.
One problem with this whole discussion is that we haven't yet spoken once of the victims family who have spent 20 years in a living hell because of this woman, which is sad.

The mother of murdered B.C. teen Reena Virk doesnt believe the parole board that granted her daughters killer temporary escorted absences from prison would have been swayed by the Virk familys opposition.
The powers that be will do what they want to do regardless, Suman Virk told CTV News Channel Monday.
There is not much you can say in these circumstances as a victim of crime because all the power lies with the parole board. As a victim, youre completely helpless.
I'm sure once she fully accepts the blame, she'll earn the rest. She's already done extra time because of that attitude, that's her own damn fault. I've got one kid who lost that 15 year old mindset by 21. Another who can't shake it at 33. Guess which one spent time inside.
Ellard's 37, she's the one making her own life into shit, so why carry on about the parole board and legal system being soft. They seem to be doing their job properly.
