I don't understand why this is so complicated. If I went on vacation, left my home unattended, and find that somebody had just moved in, all I should have to do is call the police and have them drag the bums out into the street (kicking and screaming if that is what it takes).
This should only involve the courts when the two squatters are charged with trespassing and other offences.

There is the problem. They took money and gave the people permission to enter. Without a written contract, the police don't know the difference between squatters and a crooked landlord just trying to keep the deposit.
I don't like Realtors, but they have their uses - and one is to control access to a property.
