Yeah, the last year was really mild, cool summer with a warm winter, I can still see the ground (last time this happened was ~13 years ago).

Despite the crowing of the deniers when a much colder winter was forecast for Vancouver, it's been very mild here this winter so far. We've got a possible snow forecast for the next few days, but if it sticks it doesn't look like it will stay around. Daytime highs are still forecast above freezing.

We had a lousy summer tho, because of La Nina.

In a now famous (though even at the time obvious) interview in 2010 Prof Phil Jones of the University of East Anglia confirmed that there was no statistically significant warming since 1995. There was an upward trend, but it was statistically insignificant, which in scientific parlance equates to no trend at all. In 2011 Prof Jones told the BBC that due to the inclusion of the warmish 2010 there was now a statistically significant increase between 1995 and 2010. Since 2011 was cool it doesn’t take complicated statistics to show that the post 1995 trend by that method of calculation is now back to insignificant, though I don’t expect the BBC to update its story.

Hmmm. I live in South Western ON and would say the trend is cooler Summers and warmer Winters. It is mid January and we don't even have enough snow to cover the grass and that came overnight. A previous light snow melted off as the temperature goes well over freezing almost every day. Extended says back over freezing Mon/Tue.

I don't think these people know what they are talking about. Maybe give us more research $$$ and we will tell you more?

The last few summers On the best coast have tended towards cooler and dryer while the last few winters are cooler and wetter. Last summer in particular didn't start till July and it ended in September. This winter has been a bit cool but dryer. Snow this weekend though ... Woohoo!

Ah Brenda, ya haven't lived till you experience a forest fire. I hope you are spared the experience. In northern Sask we are drifting back into a dryer spell.

I do know I picked a bad year (2011) to be the good guy that stayed home and shoveled everyone else's snow while they played golf in Arizona.

And checking the weather tonight I see a -27 for Tuesday night, winter ain't over yet.

I would have to agree with your assessment of the trend in Southern Ontario. Cooler summers and warmer winters, only where I've been living I'm seeing snow like I haven't since I was a kid but without that bitter, damp cold.
Even the humidity has been lower overall over the last 10 years which certainly makes for cooler summers. Last year I used my A/C maybe 3 days out of the entire summer. It was still nice and warm but no dampness in the air, which made the nights nice for sleeping. The year before that I think I used my A/C for about a week when we had that short heat wave. The rest of summer it was off, didn't need it. Unlike the 20 previous years were you worked up a major sweat simply by breathing
The house I had in Cambridge had a finished loft but NO vents for heat or A/C. Only 1 of the 7 years I owned the house was the loft unusable for the summer. The other years might have had a couple or so days in the summer when it was too hot to be up there during the day.

Right. I have lived in Waterloo Region for 44 years and there has been a definite shift in the norm. At one time the summer heat wave was de rigeur. Two or three weeks sunny, +30, no rain, brown grass and Region officials going on endlessly about water conservation. The last few summers, esp the one just past have been pretty decent. a few hot days here and there is no big deal but when it just goes on and on it tends to wear you down a bit.

This winter has been quite warm with rain rather than snow. We have only a little snow, not even enough to cover the grass. Cold now but warming Mon./Tue/ We had a decent amount of snow last winter but the one before was as vacant as this one.

A thing that strikes me is that I have seen some small birds the last few years that I do not recognize at all. Possibly they are from the Lake Erie shore or Ohio but it looks like they are wildlife that have expanded their territory northward.

For sure I'd go with cooler Summers/warmer Winters.

I mean on average.... we did have a cool spell but most of the winter was much warmer than previous years and a shit load of snow.... And last summer we saw only 3-4 days of +30 or greater.
