It makes sense to me - there's little point in having a public ceremony if people are obscuring their faces.

Crazy that they were allowed to do that in the first place.

Yep. Meanwhile we're still settling whether a woman can wear a veil while testifying in court, and did we ever settle whether they are required to show their face while voting? What about for getting a driver's license. Since Alberta allowed the Hutterites to go without a pic, I guess they can't complain if the Muslims now want the same deal.

Obviously, this is racism to expect Muslims to act like everyone else.

Hutterites need driver's licence photos: top court

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled 4-3 Friday that a Hutterite community in Alberta must abide by provincial rules that make a digital photo mandatory for all new driver's licences as a way to prevent identity theft.

I'm not called that too often, but no. I just think that when you are doing something like this show your face. It is respect toward Canada and reflects the dignity of the proceedings.

A journalist in Edmonton is taking exception to this decision;

Government has no right to dictate what women wear

EDMONTON — Jason Kenney is supposed to be Canada’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. But this week, he’s established a new role for himself, as national fashion arbitrator, star of his very own version of What Not to Wear.

On Monday, the Calgary MP issued an official fashion decree, banning an orthodox Muslim woman who wears a niqab or a burka from taking the oath of Canadian citizenship — unless she uncovers her face in front of the judge. Ostensibly, that’s so that citizenship court judges can visually check to ensure that women are actually repeating the words of the oath aloud.

What about passports? Will they have to be open faced? Can their hair be covered?

If their hair can be covered, can I wear my baseball cap?

Hmmmm?
