This is my theory:

Who were the protesters? Well off, mostly white suburban kids.

Who can afford good lawyers? Well off, mostly white suburbanites.

Good lawyer = higher chance of charges being dropped.

You guys arrested too many 'innocent' people at the G20 to gain control of the streets.

You guys didn't arrest enough guilty people in Vancouver and lost control of the streets.

More second guessing by arm-chair law enforcement 'experts' and a police-hating media.

They didn't even try to arrest any of the black block. The stayed out of their way while they rioted and started arresting people the next day at a different event.

Not quite true. Sunday morning 60 + people tied to the 'black bloc' tactics (all from Quebec by the way, at least one of them was a croissant baker...) were arrested at U of T residences.

The problem police had on both days of unrest is that freelance photogs, some members of the media, sympathisers etc, were all dressed in similar clothing to the black bloc guys.

The rioters trashed a starbucks and then melted into a sympathetic crowd of rich, lefty white kids. Pull off yer bandana and you like like any other Ryerson prof that was calling us all Harpers stormtroopers.

They were tied to the black bloc how?

After the G20
$1:
In the early hours of June 27, the Integrated Security Unit raided the GSU building on Bancroft Avenue following what Neschadim claims was an anonymous tip. Executing a very general search warrant, the 70 inhabitants of the building were arrested on the purported grounds of “unlawful assembly.”

The arrest included two GSU executives, Daniel Vandervoort, GSU vice-president External, and a member whose name is currently not being released. They were let go after 48 hours in the detention centre, allegedly suffering ill-treatment in “horrible” conditions.

Though unsure of the specific people being billeted, Neschadim says they included individuals from student movements or those who came through the Toronto Community Mobilization Network.
