$1:
When he first entered politics in 1963, there was no medicare, no Canada Pension Plan, no Canadian flag, no national anthem and the Constitution was a British law, he told the crowd. And at that time there were no guarantees of individual rights through the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, he added.

It is the Liberal party that did all that for Canadians, he said to wide applause.

I'd vote for that guy.

The problem with Iggy is, it's hard to defend a guy I don't really even like.

The GST, The NEP, The Gun Registry, HRDC and Adscam scandals. . .

Have you forgotten that Mulroney created the GST, and created new senate seats in order to get it to pass?

To be fair, Pearson did all that (cept the constitution) with the co-operation of the Conservatives in a minority situation. Both parties were different then, as were we as a people.

But I had just been thinking the same thing. What makes Canada what it is, is that it has been governed from the middle. We didn't go in for extremes, and that made this country a very good place to live. Now we have a nutbar in charge who calls us a second-tier socialist country and wants to emulate the worst of the right wing excess of the US. How did we get so fucked up?

If the LPC is so great why is it that everytime Quebec holds a referendum on seperation, they are the ones forming the government?

More like the Canada built by our founding fathers gets destroyed a little more everytime the Libs form a governement!!!

The Liberals did not declare Quebec a nation. They are a province, or at least they were anyway.

Wow, talk about typical Liberal arrogance. Let's take credit for anything good and deny any responsibility for anything bad.

Besides, the last I checked it was the hard work of ordinary every day Canadians that built this nation not any one party.

That's why they're getting killed this election. Lowest showing ever for the Liberal Party.

That's what Canada thinks of your record, Jean.

Well said, Dino. :D

Government and politicians are the extension/representatives of the people, not the other way around. The people are what made Canada what it is today.
