Concerns people that work in the polling districts who get the information before it is released. It's always been a problem keeping it away from TV/radio, a lot more of a problem with Twitter/Facebook since any "idiot" can post instantaneous news. On the other side, you could also get a bunch of false information and rumors.

I guess the info could be used for some sort of strategic voting scheme or something. I'm not entirely sure how that would work though. Maybe Elections Canada just wants to be the one to give us the bad news the next day and doesn't want anyone stealing their thunder  .

One solution... everybody across the country starts opening those boxes at exactly the same time, that is, at the closing of the polling stations in BC.

But that would be inconvenient for easterners!!! It could also be psychologically damaging in that they wouldn't be assured of their supreme importance in confederation by knowing who won before the western polls are even closed.

It won't happen this time anyway. Everybody says it will come down to BC.

Or close the polls in BC at 4pm, let those lazy potheads wake up early for a change.

If the potheads in BC bothered voting, there might actually be something in the campaigns about marijuana legalisation.

That might be kind of nice for a change. It's always been a pet peeve of mine that we know who the gov't is gonna be before I've even made it out to vote :( There's been years where it was pretty hard to get motivated to go do my democratic duty.

Well it will come down to BC to determine if Harper gets a majority. And the local NDP has just elected an extremist as their leader (they're determined to stay out of power it seems). I wonder if that will push a few more people to not vote for them federally and give Harper his dictat.
