Well, in the 'public' sector, not being white seems to be a distinct advantage.
When I came here I couldn't even get an interview because I wasn't from a 'target' group.

I'll take your rhetoric as truth, because you're right about the public sector. It is hard for a white male to get a job in that part of the job market.
In many ways, the private, and corporate sectors in Canada are polar opposites in terms of hiring practices.
As a society, we should strive for the middle ground.
A person shouldn't be turned back for the colour of their skin, period!
Edit: Or their gender, funny sounding names, sexual orientation, and so on.
