No one should be judged in a court of public opinion. It's too bad some people can't see that.

But it's just bloody fine when it's done to Sarah Palin, Harper, Glenn Beck, or any other conservatives. :?

Fuck Harper. He lost all right to complain about character assassination when he launched election-style attack ads adainst Dion and then Iggy outside of election campaigns. Whatever he gets, he brought on himself.

There's criminal charges out on those guys? Hallelujah! But let me be the first to say they are innocent until proven guilty, and should get a fair trial before we throw the book at em. If you can't judge politicians in the court of public opinion, you must be living in China.

I read that both women were having consensual intercourse with Assange when they told him to stop, and he didn't immediately do so.

Somewhat, yes. But were you originally referring to Assange or the two women making the allegations against him?

The WikiLeaks will have nothing to do with this in court, but court ain't the public opinion.
I still don't get what the heck happened, anyway...

I don't recall calling them scumbags, or threatening their lives. Yet, it's fine for them to do it to Assange.

I have to say that Assange is a wanker for his irresponsible release of stolen secrets, but;

This rape stuff seems well dodgy to me. The Swedes better have a good case on this otherwise Assange will be a hero if this really is all bullshit, trumped up stuff.

Bad move if it is.

Quite so. People are having enough trouble separating the man, his message and these charges. It'll turn into the perfect storm if it turns out he's a lousy witness and released.

He is. But it seems to work, because this thread was about the women accusing him of rape and the bad treatment they are recieving.

It's pretty straight forward to me. Sexual assault cases are frought with difficulty for investigators as it is.

In Canada, the percentage of false allegations is very high, maybe 70-80%. On the other hand 90% of sexual assaults go unreported if you compare the stats to those of rape crisis centres.

If there really is behind-the-scenes pressure to get Assange on a criminal charge, sexual assault is the least likely to succeed.

The charges just seem a bit convienient for me. It could well be that they're true, but they seem to come up everytime there's a Wikileaks docu-dump. It happened the last time after the Afghan docs leak, then the charges disappeared. Now, Wikileaks is in the news again, and presto-change-o, the charges are back.

I agree. Very suspicious.
