I like this quote from the Toronto Star today;

"Whether it is at the United Nation or any other international forum, the easy thing to do is simply to just get along and go along with this anti-Israeli rhetoric," Harper told an inter-parliamentary conference on combating anti-Semitism.

Saying he had the bruises to prove it, he said there are a lot more votes in being 'anti-Israeli' than in taking a stand in support of the Jewish state.

"The ideology of the anti-Israeli mob tell us all too well that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are in the longer term a threat to us all," Harper said.

Harper warned that if evil is left unchecked there will most assuredly be another Holocaust.

"Let us not forget that even now, there are those who choose evil, and would launch another Holocaust if left unchecked," Harper said.

The Prime Minister said "Jews in many parts of the globe are increasingly subjected to vandalism, threats, slurs and just plain, old-fashioned lies."

Harper also raised concerns about the anti-Israeli movement even at universities."

Same old same old, trying to please the jewish and pro Israeli lobbies and trying to come out looking like a hero after the recent UN debacle.

So you think he's wrong DD? I'd say he was pretty bang-on seeing as how not a single Arab or Muslim nation voted for Canada.

Criticizing Israel isn't always anti-Semitic--though sometimes it is. Reagardless the rise in anti-Semitism in Canada is documented and unacceptable.

Supporting Israel is seen as against Islamic nations though.

Then there should not be any expectation of peace so long as that attitude prevails.

Most Islamic nations see Israel as the enemy of Islam and it's been that way since the early Caliphates in the 9th century. Nothing has changed. The Jews and where they live are seen as targets for hate.

Looks like nothing will change in the future either.

Nobody has a problem with Israel as a soverign country itself. But what people do have a problem with is its actions and policies towards Palestine.

Really? So why are Palestinians in other Arab countries discriminated against? Why do Islamic nations vote as a bloc when it comes to Israel?

Why does Islam spawn terrorists who attack Jews outside of Israel like the Pakistani guys who hunted down the few Jews in Mumbai?

It's not black and white like that though. Being critical of Israel's actions doesn't necessarily mean you're anti-Israel. It makes no difference to me if they are Jewish, Christian or Muslim. That's not anti-Semitic. Their behaviour is agressive, and they favour expansion over peace. The article that DD posted the other day which nobody seemed to want to talk about was trying to say this. That people who are pro-Israel, should be more critical.

He goes on to say:

$1:
Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand,

What other country refuses to commit to a static border? What other country as regular policy allows people to build settlements outside of their border?

hmmm, the Arab neighbors would like to remove the border, remove the population
from the pages of time.

Not much of a border issue there either. :)

The pro Palestinian people could try being more critical of Palestine as well.

But, as usual, those people are always crying about how bad Israel is.

Israel plans 1,300 East Jerusalem Jewish settler homes

$1:
Building settlements is illegal under international law and recent efforts to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks have stalled over the issue.

A ministry spokeswoman told the BBC that the plans were being published to invite public comment and that actual construction was likely to be years away.

Israel has occupied the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since 1967, settling close to 500,000 Jews in more than 100 settlements.

If they're asking for opinions. Then don't call someone an Anti-Semite for saying that it's not in anyone's interest including Israel to sabotage the peace talks.
