aint nothing new in this country.

We are always selling out;
dignity went many years ago,
our water is next.

I already knew about HBC and it's family of stores like Zellers. Found that out when I discovered Zellers workers were organized under the CAW.
Funny thing is, I got a hold of HBC and asked if they were a totally Canadian owned and controlled company. Their response was "Yes".
So even if you ask them they still outright lie to you, despite the fact it's public knowledge.

What can be more Canadian than an iconic Canadian company that's not owned by Canadian. "I am foreign owned and I am Canadian."

No big surprise really. It seems like every time a company gets to a certain size, the owners sell out to foreign company to 'cash in'.

Well this is sad. Can't we keep something that meaningful? Like Timmies?

Excellent!
I had one ten minutes away when I lived in Sherbrooke, QC. There's only one in BC...in Cranbrooke.

Its to far!

Yes, I already knew the companies on that list weren't Canadian-owned anymore.

Sad, isn't it? Especially The Bay, being the oldest company in North America, you'd think we could still hold on to that claim.

Well, we still have Canadian Tire (at least for now). Would hate to think that crappy tire money would have an exchange rate to consider :wink:

About as likely as the ditching coffee makers and lawn ornaments and going back to selling competitively priced tires and auto parts!

Most of the big Canadian companies are foreign owned, with the exception being the telecoms, financial institutes and banks which have ownership regulations on them. I thought about this and it was pointed out to me that the medium and small business sector is more Canadian, and this is core of economy now.
