Apparantly the station will be used for climate change research.
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/arti ... mate-ragesWhich is funny, considering taxpaying dollars will be going toward a facility where that research won't begin for another 5 years. Seeing as we already know what to do to help our environment, cutting emissions should be taking priority over building an expensive research station.
But even so, they haven't actually explained exactly what sort of research will be going on up there and how this research will have a positive impact on 'the great north'. Something tells me the conservative government doesn't really care about the environment anyway, and this is just a scapegoat to control our stake in the Arctic.
