Not to worry. The World Bank has just said they will give Pstan 900 billion in aid for the floods. I'm sure the elite will leave a little bit of that money left over to actually get to the flood victims.

Andy, that's $900 million. And still, you're dead on right that most of it will go to the ruling elites.

I fully expect the Taliban to start up a revolt over this.

Million seems like peanuts these days. my bad.

I didn't realize it was a loan. I have no problem with loaning Pstan money, as long as they actually pay it back, it's not one of those nudge nudge, wink wink, loans.

I'm not sure why the Talibs would revolt over this, but I think a revolt might actually be a good thing. A true civil war in Pstan would keep everybody to busy to cause shit outside the borders. The Taliban would probably loose, but if they win, at least it would be out on the table that Pstan is a rougue nation. No more 7.5 billion (got it right this time) military aid from the US, no more trying to treat them with kid gloves.

Yep. We have Pakistanis in the Taliban and Pakistan's sons blowing up buses and the subways in the UK.

Corruption and double dealing is the order of the day in Pakistan.

The madrassas are churning out Jihadi's daily to join the cause. Women are subjugated and treated like property.
Gays are killed.

'Honour' killings are endemic.

I wonder why people are not giving cash to Pakistan?

The problem with the Taliban seizing power in Pakistan is that Pakistan has nukes and the Taliban has sworn that they will use those nukes on India the very second they have control of them. That's why the US is so keenly interested in keeping the area stable because to let things go means a general nuclear war between India and Pakistan and then maybe the other muslim states, too.

Now that might be a good role for the US military - go in and remove those nukes in case of trouble. Surely that is not beyond their capability.

The problem is that we have a fellow giving orders right now who may not give that particular order. We'll see.

Let's be fair here. Even if he wanted to give that order, your military hardly needs to be embroiled in yet another shit show in yet another hostile Muslim country.

Nor does your economy need it - though I'm sure the defence industry would have kittens over it.

Nope, but if the shit his hitting the fan anyway, you might have to go for it and get some on you. The US is lousy at winning the peace, but winning wars they can do. This wouldn't even be a war. Just go in with overwhelming force to where the nukes are (surely the US knows that) take them and get out. No nation building.

Maybe I'm onto something here. They could do the same in North Korea, except I guess the Chinese would get upset.
