Yay, I feel so proud to spend money on someone I don't really care about, who doesn't really care about us and has only a ceremonial and official role...

I'd love to know what exactly the $3 million is going to. I mean, apparently she's only there for one day. Is there an itemized bill so we can see what it's going to?

QBall QBall: I'd love to know what exactly the $3 million is going to. I mean, apparently she's only there for one day. Is there an itemized bill so we can see what it's going to? Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are scheduled to tour Canada from June 28 to July 6, spending Canada Day in Ottawa. They will also make stops in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Manitoba.
Police say, however, that so far the federal government believes Ottawa police should pay for security. They estimated policing for the visit will cost an additional $3 million.Seems awfully pricey for police service. I can't imagine how it can amount to $3M. But - what do I know? I'm just a stupid tax payer.

More or less this is a petty commentary on how foreign heads of state should not bother visiting Ottawa since the city is skank-a** cheap.

Well the Queen of England is not a foreign head of state she is the Queen of Canada.... as much as I would like to see them turfed its the way it is... 3 million would be spent in part on pomp and circumstance and of course luxury meals and state bullshit.. I bet there are a few hundred poor kids in Ottawa that could use a meal...

I agree ken but it's no different to paying out for the G8 or G20 policing costs.
She is, rightly or wrongly, the Queen of Canada. Until that changes, we should pay these minimum costs that are closely linked to this nations history, heritage and culture. After all, Pride 2014, the premier event in the trans-gendered-bi-sexual-gay-lesbian community's calendar, will cost the city of Toronto about $3,000,000 too.
Come on, I'm sure we can give Betty Windsor a proper welcome.
