This judge is a confirmed thug hugger.

I'm amazed to begin with that the officer allowed this thug to keep on breathing after stabbing the dog. The officer fired 7 times it should have been 8 and he should have been taken to autopsy not to the hospital. Now this thug will go free get millions in compensation and move to Miami Beach or Hawaii.

I imagine if this judge or a member of his family were to be the victim of violence he would have an "epiphany".

'tis what i though as well, but it is not so, the dog is not considered equal in the eyes of the law. There is also case law stating that a person can attach and hit the dog and get off if that person believes that the dog may kill them.

but that doesn't mean that person can stab the dog.

but wtf is this judge on, yeah ok judge by police dog is getting stabbed, i'll just run in there and get shanked myself so that i don't hurt this mans civil rights.

I would say so. If that was you or me who shot at a fleeing suspect who commited a crime against me, we would be in jail!

I just don't get our justice system anymore..... I could understand if he was shot in the back running away but come on! 20ft or less is not a long distance. Everyone thinks knife versus gun, but, you can close that distance very fast.

I will also say this. Likely the reason judges are so 'all over the place' with these kinds of decisions is because it is up to the judge to determine what is excessive force. We really need to re-define or 'better' define reasonable force, what is reasonable for some is not for others, it is simply to subjective.

I am not saying it would be easy to do this, but from the wide range of rulings we see for somewhat similar circumstances, I think it is high time this is seriously looked at.

as a side note, someone please explain to me how 'running and gunning' in this case is any different to the jeweller in BC who fired about as many times and killed that thug who threatened his wife with a gun? I sure remember all the armchair QB's coming out of the woodwork lambasting this guy for defending his and his wifes life saying how he shouldn't fire indiscriminately. Hum, good thing only police have guns right???
