This is a nice gesture to a man who desirves this and a lot more. He may not have been in combat, but a lot of the the support services for those who are in combat can be just as important.

RIP John Babcock.

John Babock was wrong. It didn't mater that he never saw combat. He was a brave soul as any person who died before him. He was ready to make that sacrifice and may have become one of the war's casualties had it not ended when it did. You have to admire and respect a man like that.

It's the same with a young male member of the Dunsmuir family from Victoria. He intended to sign up and fight the war in Europe. The Canadian army couldn't get him into the war fast enough so he decided to travel to the UK to sign up with their military forces. He never did make it. He booked passage on the last voyage of the Lusitania.
